Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Labyrinthitis

Labyrinthitis is a medical condition characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, giddiness, tinnitus or a buzzing sound in the ear, ear discharge and deafness.  This condition usually results from inflammation of the labyrinths, which are situated in the inner ear.  Labyrinthitis is usually caused because of infection of the inner ear due to bacteria or viruses, and may also result from frequent middle ear infections.

The Ayurvedic herbal treatment for labyrinthitis consists of treating the infection as well as inflammation within the labyrinth, and also treating the visible complications of this condition.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines are used which act on the labyrinth as well as on the middle and inner ear and treat the swelling and inflammation as well as infection.  These medicines also have a soothing action on the labyrinth, the cochlea, the auditory nerve, and other minute parts of the inner ear.  These medicines thus treat the main cause of labyrinthitis and bring about healing of the inner ear.  If the affected individual already has hearing loss and buzzing sound in the year, these need to be treated separately with specific Ayurvedic medicines which act on the auditory nerve and reduce the buzzing sound as well as improve hearing.

Once the inflammation and swelling subside, any discharge from the ear also gradually subsides and healing starts taking place both in the middle as well as inner ear.  Nausea and vomiting, and giddiness needs to be treated separately with the help of Ayurvedic medicines which act both on the brain centers as well as on the gastrointestinal system.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment for labyrinthitis needs to be continued till a complete resolution of the condition, which usually takes about 4 to 8 weeks.  In some individuals, the time required for complete recovery may be long longer, up to about 12 weeks.  However, Ayurvedic treatment, if taken regularly, is useful  in completely curing almost all patients suffering from labyrinthitis.
