Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Mixed Connective-Tissue Disease (MCTD)

Mixed connective-tissue Disease is a serious disorder which is a combination of several autoimmune diseases such as Reynaud's phenomenon, arthritis, myositis, skin rash, and involvement of the heart and lungs.  Mixed connective-tissue disease usually results from a decreased or compromised immunity, in which the immune complex of the body works against itself.  This condition is more common in women, and its onset is usually seen in a young age.

Mixed connective-tissue disease is usually treated in the modern system of medicine with steroids and other medicines which suppress the body immunity.  While this gives symptomatic relief initially, the long-term results are not favorable and the side-effects of these medicines can be considerable and quite serious.  Ayurvedic herbal treatment is very effective in the treatment of mixed connective-tissue disease.  The most important aspect of Ayurvedic treatment is that it aims to correct the autoimmune process going on in the body of the affected individual.  Correction of the immune complex is a must in order to treat the condition completely.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines normalize the immune process and treat the inflammatory reaction going on in the body, which results in the manifestation of autoimmune disorders mentioned above.

Ayurvedic herbal medicines are aimed at normalizing and correcting the tissues of the body such as blood, muscle, fat, skin, as well as the imported internal organs.  This process is usually slow and takes around three to six months in order to show significant improvement.  However, treatment in this manner corrects and normalizes the inflammatory process going on in these tissues and in the internal organs and thereby leads to a complete cure of the condition.  Aggressive treatment of this condition in the initial phase of the disease is advisable in order to prevent serious manifestations of the imported internal organs in the long run.  Involvement of the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys can be serious and possibly fatal; hence early recognition of these conditions and prompt treatment is very important.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment is thus very effective in the management of mixed connective-tissue disease and this treatment should be offered to all individuals affected with this condition, since the viable and effective treatment options for this condition are few in the modern system of medicine.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Impetigo

Impetigo is a medical condition in which there is ulceration of the skin.  This ulceration starts oozing and later forms crusts.  Scratching of these ulcers leads to a spread of the infection to the surrounding skin.  This condition usually occurs more in children than in adults.  Crowded living conditions and lack of adequate hygiene are contributing factors for impetigo.

Impetigo is usually treated with the use of appropriate antibiotics.  The maintenance of skin hygiene is important in treating this condition and preventing its spread.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines which can be utilised in the treatment of impetigo are those medicines which have an antibiotic and anti-septic action, and which also have an anti-inflammatory mode of action.  These medicines control the infection and help the ulcers to heal.  In most individuals affected with impetigo, these simple treatment principles are usually sufficient for the control of impetigo.  However, in some patients, a recurrence of the condition can be seen.  Recurrent impetigo is usually because of poor skin hygiene and decreased immunity of the skin.  In such situations, it is advisable to use Ayurvedic herbal medicines which improve the immunity of the skin, detoxify the blood circulation to the affected parts, and also help in a faster healing of ulcers.  This treatment can be accomplished both by oral medication as well as the local application of herbal powders or ointments.

Individuals who have recurrent or widespread impetigo on the body can also be given Ayurvedic medication to boost the general immunity of the body.  While treatment for impetigo for1 to 2 weeks usually suffices, treatment for recurrent or widespread impetigo needs to be given or two to three months.  However, almost all patients recover completely from this condition.  Recurrent or widespread impetigo may also cause a septic or toxic reaction in the body, especially in children.  This can cause inflammatory reactions within the body and lead to chronic medical conditions such as inflammation of the kidneys.  It is for this reason that conditions like impetigo need to be treated at the earliest possible.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Halitosis (Bad Breath)

Halitosis or bad breath is believed to be quite common in the general population and usually results from poor dental hygiene.  However, halitosis can also result from diseases of the respiratory tract as well as the digestive system.  In addition, diseases of the kidneys and liver in a chronic condition can also cause bad breath.  Fasting for prolonged duration, and eating certain food stuffs can also cause bad breath.
Maintaining oral hygiene is a must in the treatment of halitosis or bad breath.  Regular brushing of the teeth, massage of the gums and rinsing with water, especially after consuming food, usually takes care of bad breath.  Infection in the gums and decaying teeth need to be attended to at the earliest possible.  In addition, chronic infections of the lungs as well as the digestive tract need to be treated completely.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines can be given in order to improve the immunity of the lungs as well as normalize the mucosa present in the respiratory tract.  The digestive capacity in the intestines needs to be normalized with the help of Ayurvedic herbal medicines, so as to reduce chances for bad breath.

Chronic kidney failure as well as chronic liver failure also contributes to the retention of toxic elements and metabolic byproducts in the blood, which result in bad breath.  These conditions need to be treated aggressively by using the appropriate Ayurvedic medicines.  In such situations, treatment is naturally long-term, and the immediate priority is to treat these serious medical conditions, in which halitosis or bad breath is just one minor but significant symptom.

Ayurvedic medicines can also be given to treat the blood and muscle tissue so as to reduce the chances for a recurrence of halitosis or bad breath.  In most instances, bad breath is usually a symptom and indicator of more underlying serious medical problems.  Hence, chronic and persistent bad breath should be attended to at the earliest.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Dengue Fever

Dengue fever is a type of fever which is caused by transmission of the dengue virus through mosquito bite.  This fever is characterized by high temperature, severe body pain, vomiting, and skin rash. This fever usually subsides after standard treatment with painkillers and symptomatic medication for fever.  More severe manifestations of the fever require administration of intravenous fluids, after which the fever subsides rapidly. A severe manifestation of dengue fever is known as dengue hemorrhagic fever, in which disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) occurs.  This results in generalized bleeding in the body and can prove to be serious or even fatal.

The Ayurvedic management of dengue fever consists of giving symptomatic treatment for all the symptoms. The Ayurvedic medicines given for fever usually also reduce skin rash and burning sensation in the body.  Additional treatment needs to be given to treat the severe body pain, which is usually characteristic of this fever.  Other symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea have to be treated separately.  Treatment of disseminated intravascular coagulation has to be done aggressively in order to prevent morbidity and mortality from this condition.  Usually, the bleeding results from gross inflammation of the blood vessels and small capillaries all over the body.  This inflammation can be controlled by using Ayurvedic herbal medicines in high doses, which act swiftly and thereby prevent or reduce hemorrhage within the body.  Treating the blood also reduces toxins present within the blood and thereby prevents any further complications.

As mentioned previously, most individuals suffering from dengue fever respond rapidly; however, this condition is not to be taken lightly and treatment has to be instituted as early as possible, and affected individuals need to be under close supervision.  Timely treatment and medication has been known to prevent serious complications.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Premenstrual Syndrome is a group of symptoms mainly experienced during the period from ovulation till the onset of menses.  This syndrome includes symptoms of abdominal pain, feelings of bloating, irritability, anxiety, emotional outbursts, lack of attention etc.  Premenstrual syndrome is said to result from an abnormal reaction or sensitivity to the change of hormones in the blood after the occurrence of ovulation.

Most women affected with premenstrual syndrome can be managed symptomatically with the use of minimum medication, counseling, social support, and psychotherapy.  However, some women are significantly affected by premenstrual syndrome, which makes life difficult for them during this period.  Such women need aggressive treatment and psychological support.

The Ayurvedic treatment for premenstrual syndrome consists of giving medicines which act on the body and prevent abnormal retention of fluid.  These medicines also reduce abdominal pain and cramps.  Medicines also have to be given to relieve stress, anxiety, and emotional labiality.  Medicines which soothe the mind as well as the nervous system are quite effective in controlling most of the symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome.  In addition, preventive treatment can be given in the form of herbal medicines which act on the ovary, the uterus, as well as the parts of the brain which control ovulation and menstruation.  These medicines need to be taken for a period of three to four menstrual cycles, so that symptoms of premenstrual syndrome can be corrected gradually and their severity and frequency of occurrence can be reduced on a long-term basis.  The presentation of symptoms can be different in different individuals; treatment therefore has to be tailor-made according to the presentation of premenstrual syndrome in affected females.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment is thus very effective in the treatment & management of premenstrual syndrome.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Pleural Effusion

Pleural effusion is an accumulation of fluid or pus within the two covering layers of the lungs.  This usually results from Infection of the heart or lungs, or as a result of injury or advanced cancer.  Pleural effusion is characterized by fever, localized pain, dry hacking cough, and breathlessness.  Pleural effusion is usually treated by the appropriate antibiotics and other symptomatic treatment.  Removal of the fluid with the help of a syringe and needle can help to reduce the pressure on the lungs and can also be used for diagnostic purposes.

Pleural effusion which results from Infection or heart failure can be usually treated with modern medicines.  Antibiotics are usually effective in most patients in treating the pleural effusion and helping to reduce or resolve the accumulated fluids.  The management of pleural effusion usually includes treatment of any known cause for the condition.  However, some patients do not improve in spite of appropriate antibiotic therapy.  Such patients can be effectively managed with the judicious use of Ayurvedic herbal medicines.  Ayurvedic treatment helps to resolve the accumulation of fluid and also controls the Infection.  Treatment for about 8 to 12 weeks is usually sufficient to treat pleural effusion in most patients.  The treatment also adequately treats other symptoms like fever, pain, and breathlessness.  Most such patients also tend to lose considerable weight after getting affected with pleural effusion.  Appropriate Ayurvedic treatment helps such patients to regain the lost weight.  Such patients also have improved appetite and become active within a few weeks of starting treatment.

It is equally important to treat the known cause for the pleural effusion.  Infections within the respiratory tract and lungs have to be treated appropriately.  Heart failure and other disorders of the heart also need to be treated appropriately.  Advanced cancer needs to be treated aggressively along with symptomatic treatment of the pleural effusion, in order to adequately treat the medical condition.  It is important to investigate the patient thoroughly in order to look for hidden infection related to tuberculosis.  Tuberculosis if detected needs to be treated aggressively.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment is thus effective in the management of refractory pleural effusion.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Filariasis

Filariasis is an infection of the lymph notes caused by a parasite.  This is a chronic condition and is endemic in many parts of the world, usually the tropical and sub-tropical areas.  Filariasis
is also known as elephantiasis, since it causes swelling of the lymph nodes and subcutaneous tissue, usually in the entire legs and feet, resulting in elephant-like feet.  This infection may persist for years in spite of adequate treatment.  Initial symptoms include recurrent fever, swelling, redness and heat in the affected area, and pain.  In the chronic phase, most people have painless swelling.

The Ayurvedic treatment for filariasis consists of using herbal medicines which are known to act on the filarial infection.  Treatment destroys the parasites present within the blood and lymph nodes.  In addition, treatment is given to treat the blood as well as the lymph fluid, so that infection as well as obstruction can be prevented or reduced as early as possible.  This treatment also reduces swelling in the subcutaneous tissue.  Reduction of blockage and swelling is paramount in the successful treatment of filariasis.  This can prevent the further formation of elephantiasis or elephant-foot, which is very difficult to treat and can be only surgically corrected.

In addition to destroying the filarial parasite, medicines are also given to remove the dead parasites as well as generated toxins through the intestines as well as the kidneys.  This result in an early resolution of all the symptoms related to filarial infection.  With this treatment, redness, heat and pain resolve rapidly.  People affected with filariasis, who commence treatment at an early stage, benefit the most.  Treatment commenced after several years of infection is usually not very successful; however, even at this stage, if the blockage in the lymph nodes and glands can be reduced surgically, further treatment can be done with the help of Ayurvedic medicines, so as to treat the condition completely.

Ayurvedic treatment, if started early and taken regularly for long periods, can thus help to completely treat filariasis infection.
