Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Behcet's Syndrome

Behcet's Syndrome is also known as Behcet's disease and consists of symptoms such as mouth and genital ulcers and inflammation around the pupil of the eye which is known as uveitis.  This disease mainly involves inflammation and can affect the arteries, veins, retina, brain, joints, skin and intestines.  This condition is seen mostly in people from the Eastern Mediterranean and Asia, and is known to be strongly related to genetic and environmental factors.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment for Behcet's syndrome mainly involves treatment of the inflammation of the affected organs and systems in the individual affected with this condition.  Treatment is also directed towards treatment of the mouth and oral ulcers, with a special attention to inflammation in the eyes.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines which have a strong anti-inflammatory action are used in high doses in this condition.  Medicines which act on the blood tissue as well as lymph tissue are used primarily in the treatment of this condition.

Additional treatment depends upon treatment of the specific organ involved.  Medicines which have a specific action on the arteries, veins, joints, skin, the intestines, the eye and the brain are used in combination with the above-mentioned medicines.  The combination of medicines depends upon the specific symptoms and severity as presenting in the affected individual.

Most individuals affected with Behcet's syndrome need regular treatment for about eight to eighteen months in order to be completely free from this disease and to prevent recurrence of the symptoms.  Once a remission of symptoms is seen, medicines can be reduced gradually so that the affected individual is maintained on a very low dose of Ayurvedic herbal medicines, with a view to prevent recurrence.  It is important to look out for symptoms of the eye in order to prevent a loss of vision.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment can thus be judiciously utilised in the successful management and treatment of Behcet's syndrome.
