Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Porphyria

Porphyria is a group of inherited disorders which result from incomplete conversion of porphyrins into heme, which is present in all body tissues, but is most commonly found in the red blood cells.  The build up of porphyrins in the body causes symptoms like abdominal pain, constipation, vomiting, muscular pain, convulsions, tingling and weakness, confusion, hallucinations, high blood pressure, and red urine -- all symptoms arising from a dysfunction of the nervous system.  When porphyria affects the skin, it causes symptoms like itching, redness, swelling, blisters, and red urine.  Porphyria can be precipitated by medications, fasting, smoking, infections, surgery, stress, menstrual hormones, excessive use of alcohol, and exposure to sun.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment for porphyria is aimed at reversing the incomplete conversion of porphyrins into heme.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines which act on the blood tissue at the microcellular level are given in high doses in order to normalize the metabolism of porphyrins into heme.  In addition, medicines which act on the bone marrow are also given so as to have a combined effect with the above mentioned medicines to correct porphyria.  Medicines are also given to flush the porphyrins from the circulation either through the gastrointestinal tract or through the kidneys and the urinary tract.  This results in a reduction of porphyrins from the circulation and from the nervous system, which in turn brings about a gradual improvement in symptoms like pain, tingling and numbness, convulsions, skin symptoms, and red urine.

Ayurvedic herbal medicines are also given to strengthen the nervous system as well as the subcutaneous tissue and skin, so as to help in the improvement of the affected individual and bring about an earlier relief from all the symptoms of this disease.  Immunomodulatory herbal treatment also helps in reducing the overall treatment time  In addition, medicines which normalize and regulate the cellular metabolism of all the tissues is also added to the treatment, so that patients do not have a relapse of the condition after discontinuing the medicines.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment can thus be judiciously utilised in the management and treatment of porphyria.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Multiple Myeloma

Multiple myeloma is a cancer which affects the plasma cells in the bone marrow. These immature plasma cells create a crowding effect in the large bones, leading to the typical symptoms of the condition which include bone pain, fractured bones, weakness and fatigue, weight loss, nausea, constipation, frequent urination, and frequent infections and fevers.  The modern management of this condition includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and stem cell transplantation.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment for multiple myeloma is aimed at treating the root cause of the condition as well as giving treatment for the different symptoms related to this disease.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines are used which act on the bone marrow in order to stimulate it to start producing normal plasma cells.  Additionally, other Ayurvedic medicines are given to remove the immature plasma cells from the affected bones and flush these out of the body through the gastrointestinal tract or through the kidneys and the urinary tract.

In addition, medicines which act on the blood tissue as well as the liver and spleen are given in order to supplement the treatment for multiple myeloma, so that the regulatory response in the bone marrow is brought about at a much faster rate.  Ayurvedic medicines are also given to boost the immune status of the body so that the body starts fighting against the cancer and the immature plasma cells.

With the above treatment, the cancerous plasma cells gradually start reducing, while the bone marrow start producing normal plasma cells which later on mature into different types of red and white cells.  This treatment also gradually strengthens the bones so that pain is reduced and bone fractures start healing.  The overall process of treating the root cause and reversing of the effects of multiple myeloma is a slow one, and treatment needs to be taken for at least 8 to12 months in order to improve significantly with Ayurvedic herbal medicines.  However, Ayurvedic herbal treatment can bring about a dramatic change even in patients severely affected with multiple myeloma, and can significantly change the grim outlook of this disease.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Thalassemia

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder involving defective production of haemoglobin, because of which the normal lifespan of blood cells decreases dramatically, requiring the use of periodical blood transfusion.  Thalassemia major is a beta type of Thalassemia and is a more serious type of this condition.  It is also known as Cooley's Anemia and Mediterranean Anemia.  Symptoms of this condition include a pale skin, irritability, growth retardation, jaundice, hemolytic anemia, and enlargement of the liver and spleen.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment for Thalassemia is aimed at providing supportive treatment so as to increase the lifespan of the affected blood cells, stimulate the bone marrow to produce normal red blood cells, as well as to possibly correct the defective production of haemoglobin.  The affected individual can initially be provided blood transfusions as and when required.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines which have a specific action on the bone marrow are used in high doses for periods of six to nine months.  These medicines have a stimulating and correcting action on the bone marrow so that normal type of red blood cells can be produced.  Ayurvedic medicines are also used to act on the blood cells so that defective production of haemoglobin can be corrected or minimized to the extent possible.

Long-term use of these medicines can gradually correct the abnormal production of haemoglobin and defective red blood cells, so that the lifespan of the red blood cells can be gradually corrected and brought to as near the normal as possible.  This reduces the need for blood transfusion and gradually treats all the known symptoms of Thalassemia major such as enlargement of the liver and spleen, jaundice, pale skin, and growth retardation.  In addition, Ayurvedic medicines are also used which act on the basic cellular structure of the body so that it continues to produce normal haemoglobin as well as normal blood cells even after discontinuation of the treatment.  Herbal medicines which have a specific action on the blood tissue as well as on the liver and spleen are also used in addition to the medicines which act on the bone marrow.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment can thus be judiciously utilised in the successful management and treatment of Thalassemia major.
