Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Recurrent Epistaxis

Epistaxis is the medical condition signifying bleeding from the nose.  This usually results from trauma, direct blows to the nose, prolonged nasal congestion and repeated blowing of the nose, and bleeding disorders.  Epistaxis may sometimes occur without any known cause for the condition.  Recurrent epistaxis sometimes occurs in children, and occasionally runs in some families.  While in children, recurrent epistaxis may not have any particular cause, if there is a family history, it may be usually related to some bleeding disorder.

The immediate treatment of epistaxis involves the application of direct pressure to the nose for a few minutes in order to stop the bleeding.  Application of ice around the nose can also help to slow down or stop the bleeding.  It is also important to keep the affected individual in an upright position, so as to reduce the flow of blood to the nose.  In people with recurrent epistaxis, it is important to investigate for possible causes for the condition.  Treatment in such situations involves treating the cause, so as to treat recurrent epistaxis.

The Ayurvedic treatment of recurrent epistaxis involves treating the known causes of the condition, and also giving symptomatic treatment to stop the bleeding.  Medicines are given to treat nasal congestion and to strengthen the nasal mucosa, so that recurrent ulceration and bleeding can be prevented.  If there is a known bleeding disorder, specific treatment for this condition needs to be given.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines which act on the blood, blood vessels, and the mucous membrane are chosen so as to completely treat recurrent epistaxis and prevent further episodes.  While oral medications are important in the treatment of this condition, local application of soothing powders or medicated oils, is also equally important.

For recurrent respiratory infections, Ayurvedic medicines are given so as to prevent and treat infections and prevent further recurrence.  Most of the medicines useful in such situations also help to boost the general immunity of the body.  Treatment of the blood disorders may require the use of different medicines.  While treating recurrent epistaxis, it is also important to inquire about the use of drug misuse in the form of inhalation, and also to rule out exposure to irritant gases and dust.

A judicious use of Ayurvedic herbal medicines is thus very effective in the treatment of recurrent epistaxis.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Hypercholesterolemia

Hypercholesterolemia is a condition in which there is an increase of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) as compared to high density lipoprotein (HDL) in the blood.  This may result from inappropriate lifestyles such as reduced activity, ingestion of food containing high amounts of fat, and a familial tendency to have high cholesterol in the blood.  Hypercholesterolemia can cause various problems such as an increased risk of paralysis, heart attacks, and the blockage of circulation to the limbs, which may result in ulcers and gangrene.
Hypercholesterolemia can be treated with several Ayurvedic Herbal medicines which are highly effective in reducing the bad cholesterol from the blood.  These medicines treat both the cause of the disease and its after-effects in the body.  The medicines improve the ratio of bad cholesterol to good cholesterol, reduce the tendency of blood to stick together and form clots, and reduce the risk of thrombosis both in the heart as well as the brain.  This treatment therefore also prevents further complications resulting from hypercholesterolemia.  In addition, the same medicines help to improve the condition of the liver as well as the kidneys, and also improve appetite and help in reducing weight.
Ayurvedic herbal medicines need to be taken for about two to three months regularly in order to treat hypercholesterolemia effectively and to prevent its recurrence.  In addition, adequate lifestyle changes have to be adopted, such as regular exercise, eating good food, and avoiding unhealthy food.  Timely intervention in the form of medication and adopting healthy  lifestyle changes can prevent serious complications in the long run.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis is a medical condition in which an affected individual has recurrent episodes of sneezing and running nose, usually after exposure to known allergens like dust, changing weather, damp locations and pets etc. This is a fairly common condition, and though not considered serious, can lead to considerable absenteeism from the workplace or school. The modern treatment of this condition is with anti-histaminic drugs and mucous-membrane stabilising sprays and medicines.
In spite of the availability of such modern medicines, many affected individuals continue to be severely affected with this problem, and can experience frustrating recurrences. Ayurvedic medicines have a special role to play in the treatment of this condition. Several Ayurvedic medicines can be used to give symptomatic relief of symptoms; the same medicines when used for 6-8 weeks can help to considerably reduce the frequency of recurrence of this condition, even after exposure to known allergens. Ayurvedic medicines reduce nasal congestion, inflammation, infection, and also help in repairing the damage to the mucous membrane of the nose and throat. The mucous membrane has microscopic hair known as cilia, which can be regenerated so that they start working effectively to reduce infection and inflammation in the entire respiratory tract.
Various medicated oils are used as local applications in the nose, and help to reduce frequent episodes of sneezing and watering of nose. The advantage of the regular use of such medicines is that they also treat nasal polyps, and provide additional benefits in the form of thickening and blackening of scalp hair, reduced hair fall, and prevent a deterioration of vision. Several Ayurvedic medicines can also be used as courses of two or three months to treat allergic rhinitis, recurrent asthma, and chronic bronchitis. People affected with allergic rhinitis may also be suffering from other allergic disorders such as eczema and asthma, and these conditions also need to be treated separately.
To sum up, allergic rhinitis can be treated quite effectively with Ayurvedic medicines.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Hearing Loss

Hearing loss which requires treatment can be of three types: Sensorineural hearing loss, conductive hearing loss, and a mixed type which involves hearing loss with both the previously mentioned types. It is best to conduct a thorough medical examination as well as an audiometry test to correctly diagnose the cause and type of hearing loss.

Ayurvedic medicines are effective in all types of hearing loss. The aim of treatment in sensorineural hearing loss is to help regenerate the auditory nerve, the parts of the inner ear connected to the auditory nerve, as well as to strengthen the hearing centre in the brain. Depending upon the severity of nerve damage, treatment from 3-6 months is usually required to help restore hearing to normal or near-normal levels. Other concurrent medical conditions like diabetes and hypertension may also have an impact upon the duration of treatment and the improvement observed with Ayurvedic medicines. In addition, elderly people with other nervous system involvement , for example, diseases like Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, may also need to be treated concurrently for these diseases, before they can get benefit for hearing loss.

Conductive hearing loss is usually related to damage in the middle ear, due to various reasons like recurrent infections, trauma, or congenital defects. The aim of treatment in this type of hearing loss is to repair the damage in the middle ear - usually related to the small bones which connect the ear drum to the auditory nerve. Ossification of these bones is the usual end-result, whic causes hearing loss.Treatment is aimed at healing these damaged bones to the extent possible, and removing or treating any known cause for the condition. Ayurvedic medicines are unique in the sense that they have the capacity to reduce the ossification and gluing together of the bones in the middle ear, and allow the natural hearing process to resume.

Mixed type of hearing loss has to be treated depending upon the severity of each component present in the affected individual. In addition, most affected people also have tinnitus or buzzing sound in the ear. Most of the times, it is related to nerve damage or a disturbance in the semi-circular canals of the ear. This too needs to be treated, since it may severely incapacitate the affected individual. Treatment is usually aimed at reducing the pressure in these canals, and reducing the stickiness of fluid present inside.
