Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Sexual Dysfunction in Women

Sexual dysfunction in women is a very common condition which is rarely discussed openly by affected women, and frequently ignored or misunderstood by their spouses; however, the consequences can be disastrous for the couple.  Sexual dysfunction in women may be caused by medications, diseases, excessive and prolonged use of alcohol, depression, vaginal infections, pregnancy, breast feeding, menopause, stress, relationship problems, fatigue, and boredom.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment for sexual dysfunction in women depends upon the cause of the condition.  A detailed history is very important and involves adequate input from both partners in order to locate the root cause of the problem.  Excessive use of medicines needs to be avoided with the continuation of only those medicines which cannot be stopped.  Medical conditions need to be adequately treated, especially diseases involving the genitourinary tract in females.  The couple needs to be advised adequate lifestyle changes so as to avoid excessive alcohol, drugs, and avoid factors which bring about stress and conflict.

Herbal medicines which treat inflammation and infection can be used as required.  Medicines may also be required to treat tension, fear, anxiety, and stress.  Provided all the causative factors have been taken into consideration and managed adequately, Ayurvedic medicines which improve the immune status of women and bring about a feeling of health, vigor, and vitality are important in the management of sexual dysfunction in women.  Most of the times, such medicines are sufficient to treat this medical condition; however, in a few affected females, medicines may also be required to increase sexual desire.

Affected couples should make efforts to bring about a change in routine, generate a relaxed and romantic environment, give time for adequate foreplay, use appropriate lubricants, and most important of all, sort out personal issues with each other.  The combination of such practical steps, in addition to any required treatment, is important in the successful management and treatment of sexual dysfunction in women.  More serious problems may require referral to a counselor, sex therapist or a Psychiatrist.
