Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, and is a leading cause of death.  Cervical cancer usually affects women in the age between 35 and 55.  80% of survival cancer is of the squamous cell carcinoma type, while adenocarcinoma makes up the balance 15%.  Risk factors for cervical cancer include early sexual activity, multiple sexual partners, sexually transmitted diseases, heavy smoking, and a weak immune system.  The modern management of cervical cancer includes a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment for cervical cancer is aimed at treating the primary tumour, preventing its spread to other parts of the body, and also treating any known metastases of the disease.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines which have a general action on cancer cells are used in high doses in this disease.  In addition, herbal medicines which have a specific action on the uterine muscle and cervix are also used in combination with the above-mentioned medicines.  Ayurvedic medicines which act on the lymph and the blood tissue are used to prevent the spread of the cancer to other parts of the body.  In addition, if the individual already has known metastases, these are treated according to the specific organ affected.

Most women affected with cervical cancer needs aggressive and prolonged treatment for about six to nine months in order to get a remission from the tumour, to improve the quality of life, and to significantly improve the survival rate from this condition.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines can also be given concurrently along with conventional therapy, to improve the chances for a complete cure, and to prevent a recurrence of the condition.  Ayurvedic herbal immunomodulatory drugs are also used in high doses in order to improve and strengthen the immune system of affected individuals.  This helps in treating the cancer and maintaining the strength and stamina of affected individuals.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment thus has a significant role to play in the management and treatment of cervical cancer.
