Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Sarcoidosis

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory condition which causes the formation of a granuloma in any part of the body and especially in the lungs or lymph nodes.  The common symptoms for sarcoidosis include weight loss, fatigue, night sweats, fever, skin rash, eye inflammation, cough and breathlessness.  The diagnosis of sarcoidosis is mainly through a process of exclusion of other diseases.  The significance of sarcoidosis is that while it is neither cancerous nor contagious and mostly heals spontaneously in 2 to 3 years, it can however, cause serious damage to vital body organs like the heart, lungs liver, kidneys and the nervous system.  The modern management of sarcoidosis is mainly with the use of steroids.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment for sarcoidosis is based on treating the inflammatory process in the body, as well as treating the presenting symptoms of this condition.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines are given to reduce cough and breathlessness, as well as fever, night sweats and skin rash.  Ayurvedic anti-inflammatory medicines which have a soothing action on the skin, subcutaneous tissue, blood as well as the entire body, are used in high doses in order to reverse the pathology of sarcoidosis.  This condition is believed to result from a disturbed immunity of the body; hence Ayurvedic immunomodulatory herbal medicines are used on a long-term basis in order to boost the immunity of the body and help in an early resolution of the symptoms and this disease.

Herbal medicines are given to treat the toxins within the circulatory system as well as the lymph nodes and lungs, and these toxins are then removed through the gastrointestinal system or through the kidneys and the urinary system.  This treatment helps to dissolve the granuloma present in the body.  In addition, immunomodulatory treatment also helps to bring about quicker relief from the symptoms, and also prevent a recurrence of the condition.  Ayurvedic herbal medicines are also given to improve appetite, to remove dysfunction of the affected organs, and to help the affected individual put on weight.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment can thus be judiciously utilised in the management and successful treatment of sarcoidosis.
