Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation is a medical condition in which the upper chambers of the heart beat at an abnormally fast rate. This results in dysfunctional blood circulation, which causes breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, and an increased risk of the formation of blood clots and other complications. There are multiple causes of atrial fibrillation which need to be investigated thoroughly in order to effectively treat this condition.
Ayurvedic medicines have a very good corrective action for the treatment of heart related medical conditions like irregular heart beats, conduction blocks, heart failure, and dilated heart. Angina pains, and recurrent heart attacks, which result from blocked coronary arteries, can also be effectively treated with Ayurvedic medicines.
Conduction defects of the heart include atrial fibrillation, bundle branch block, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation. These conditions can be treated effectively with Ayurvedic medicines. In addition to treating the conduction defects, known causes also have to be treated concurrently.
The scope of Ayurvedic treatment in such problems related to the heart is highlighted in patient testimonials such as the one given below:
Dear Dr Mundewadi,

I really think your Ayurvedic medicine has saved me: last December 2010, I was taken to hospital for atrial fibrillation and given some medicine, multaq, which made me very weak, I could not have any activity, just go from bed to my armchair, and back to bed.

I turned to Ayurvedic medicine, and Dr Mundewadi sent me his medication for atrial fibrillation; by that time I had stopped taking multaq because of its side effects and replaced it with a beta-blocker.

I took the Ayurvedic medicine as well as the beta-blocker for 3 months, and at the end of May, went to my cardiologist who could not find any sign of atrial fibrillation; he told me to stop my beta-blocker and everything is fine, I am only taking warfarin and if all goes well, I will stop it in 6 months.

I think it is a pity Ayurvedic medicine is not well known outside India; I think Indian doctors should make their medicine known all over the world.

PS: Please feel free to use this testimonial, but just sign it with my initials, F.L.H., from France”.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Post-Herpetic Neuralgia

Herpes Zoster is a medical condition in which rash and blisters appear on the skin, following the distribution pattern of a nerve ending, usually seen only in one half of the body. The rash is accompanied by a burning pain of severe or moderate intensity. This infection is caused by an activation of the chicken pox virus within the spinal cord, due to various reasons such as stress, exposure to cold, reduced immunity, and concurrent illness or infection.
While the rash usually subsides within a week or two, damage to the nerve may persist due to incomplete treatment or an absence of treatment. This results in severe pain in the affected area, usually lasting from several weeks to several months or years. This condition is known as post-herpetic neuralgia, and is usually seen in the elderly. This pain can be incapacitating for the affected person, and frustrating for the attending physician, since the condition is usually intractable to treatment.
Ayurvedic medicines have bee found to be very useful in the treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia. The treatment is aimed at providing immediate, symptomatic pain relief to the affected individual, in addition to treating the root cause of pain, which is the nerve damage due to Herpes Zoster infection. Treatment is advised for a period of four to six months, which is the time normally required for a complete healing of the affected nerve. Repeated reassurances and encouragement for the affected individual are necessary, since the pain resolves completely only with a healing of the nerve. Concurrent administration of modern pain killers may also be required for severe pain for a few weeks, so as to maintain the morale of the patient and help to maintain compliance to the full course of treatment.
Ayurvedic medicines can thus help treat post herpetic neuralgia, which is usually considered very resistant to treatment.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Appendicitis

Appendicitis is infection and inflammation of the appendix, which is a rudimentary part of the intestines. In the initial phase of inflammation, the appendix is very friable, that is, it can rupture easily. In this stage, it is advisable to admit the patient to a surgical hospital for close observation and treatment, and surgery if necessary. Once this acute stage passes of, Ayurvedic medicines can be commenced to help resolve the mass.
Ayurvedic treatment for appendicitis is aimed at treating the infection, helping the inflammation subside, and dissolving the lump. The herbal medicines useful for this have special properties to not only control the infection, but to improve the blood supply to the appendix, without causing any harm to the organ. This helps in detoxifying the mass, as well clearing the debris from the area. The appendicular lump thus starts dissolving slowly, and the appendix heals completely over time.
The advantage of this type of treatment is that the appendicitis can be cured completely, so that further episodes of infection and inflammation are prevented. This is especially useful in patients with appendicitis, who cannot be operated upon, or who have recurrent episodes. Ayurvedic treatment is usually given for three months, after which people with two or three recurrent episodes have been symptom-free since the last fifteen to twenty years. While this treatment has also been successfully used in patients with severe and acute infection of the appendix, this is not routinely recommended because of the potential risk of perforation, and its resulting complications.
Judiciously used, Ayurvedic treatment can thus prove to be a boon for patients who experience the painful and often frustrating episodes of recurrent appendicitis.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Liver Failure

The liver is an important organ of the body and is primarily useful in the digestion process as well as for the detoxification of substances harmful to the body. This organ has a substantial capacity for retaining its functionality even with extensive damage; however,   prolonged and heavy alcohol, drug and medicinal abuse, infections and trauma can ultimately result in liver failure. Modern medicines have little to offer in order to prevent liver failure or heal the damage done to the liver. Liver transplantation is offered to people with complete liver failure; however, there are various related problems like availability of a liver graft, surgical risks, and compatibility as well as organ-rejection issues.
Ayurvedic medicines have a definite advantage in the treatment of liver failure, since there are many herbal medicines which act directly on the liver. The plethora of widely available ‘Ayurvedic liver tonics’ are sufficient proof of this. Herbal medicines act on the liver cells to treat both infection as well as inflammation. These medicines also significantly reduce scarring and permanent liver damage, if used in a timely manner. The medicines also improve blood flow to the liver, in addition to increasing the liver secretions, mainly bile.
Patients with established liver failure benefit from Ayurvedic medicines since these improve appetite, reduce complications like oesophageal varices, and accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity. The sluggish liver also starts performing in a better fashion in order to reduce accumulated toxins within the body. Ayurvedic medicines also help in the detoxification process by aiding elimination through the urinary system as well as the gastrointestinal system. Symptoms of jaundice like yellowing of eyes and skin, and itching are also significantly reduced or eradicated completely. Patients with advanced liver failure also exhibit involvement of the nervous system. Ayurvedic medicines can also treat these symptoms, and prevent further complications like convulsions and coma.
It is important to note that positive results are directly related to how quickly Ayurvedic treatment is instituted in established liver failure. Patients who benefit from treatment and achieve some physical stability need to take stock of their lives and try to make significant lifestyle changes, in order to avoid the known causes of liver failure.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for MDR and XDR Tuberculosis

MDR tuberculosis stands for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, while the term XDR stands for extremely drug-resistant tuberculosis. These medical conditions are of serious concern in the current world-wide scenario related to tuberculosis treatment. An increasingly large number of patients affected with tuberculosis have shown no improvement with the current standard regimens for tuberculosis treatment. This is gradually creating a situation where the tuberculosis bacilli are gradually becoming treatment resistant. This situation will significantly increase the mortality from this disease, and may drastically alter the current known prognosis of this disease.
The modern treatment of MDR and XDR tuberculosis employs the use of several second line and third line anti-bacterial agents which, in addition to being very costly, are also highly toxic. Therapy with these drugs is therefore a very tricky issue, and results shown so far have not been very promising. The use of Ayurvedic medicines, either as additional therapy or as stand-alone drugs, has assumed considerable importance in the treatment of MDR and XDR tuberculosis.
The role of Ayurvedic medicines in the treatment of resistant tuberculosis is many-fold. These medicines act directly on the tuberculosis bacilli and render them inactive. These medicines also improve both the local as well as general immunity of the body, so that the weakened response of the body to the bacterial onslaught is strengthened, and the inflammatory response is inhibited or prevented altogether. Ayurvedic medicines also help the body to repair the damage done by the tuberculosis infection. The toxic effects of modern medicines on the liver, kidneys and other organs can be prevented or minimised, and the organs can be helped to repair themselves. Ayurvedic medicines also help to revitalise the body and improve weight.
Ayurvedic treatment, given for about six months, can thus help to give a new lease of life to people affected with MDR and XDR tuberculosis.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for HIV/AIDS

HIV infection is a medical condition denoting infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. As this infection progresses, the virus effectively weakens and disables the immunity of the body, rendering it susceptible to multiple infections. The infection gradually culminates into full-blown AIDS, which has specific definition criteria according to WHO guidelines.
The modern treatment of HIV/AIDS consists of anti-retroviral medicines which inactivate the virus at various stages of its growth and propagation within the host environment; however, most of these medicines are highly toxic and do not completely eradicate the virus. While treatment costs have come down considerably, there is no cure, and multiple combinations of these medicines to synergise efficacy only result in increased costs and toxicity.
Ayurvedic medicines are very effective in controlling the HIV virus, preventing its multiplication, improving the body immunity, and actually treating various problems related to HIV infection. While modern antibiotics can better handle bacterial opportunistic infections, Ayurvedic medicines are more superior for immune-modulation, and for repairing the damage to various important organs and systems such as the heart, liver, kidneys, and the nervous system and gastrointestinal system.
People with severe and advanced HIV infection, such as full-blown AIDS, can be very well managed with Ayurvedic treatment. Patients with a CD4 count of less than 5 can be maintained for several years with Ayurvedic herbomineral treatment. Complicated conditions like advanced nervous system involvement, including conditions like speech and hearing loss, semi-comatose state, and coma have been treated successfully with Ayurvedic medicines. Chronic diarrhoea and severe body wasting can also be treated successfully with Ayurvedic medicines.
Ayurvedic treatment can thus prove to be a boon in the treatment of advanced HIV/AIDS. Scientific, long-term studies are the need of the hour in order to validate these results in a large number of patients, in order to give respectability and credibility to this system of medicine.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis is a medical condition in which an affected individual has recurrent episodes of sneezing and running nose, usually after exposure to known allergens like dust, changing weather, damp locations and pets etc. This is a fairly common condition, and though not considered serious, can lead to considerable absenteeism from the workplace or school. The modern treatment of this condition is with anti-histaminic drugs and mucous-membrane stabilising sprays and medicines.
In spite of the availability of such modern medicines, many affected individuals continue to be severely affected with this problem, and can experience frustrating recurrences. Ayurvedic medicines have a special role to play in the treatment of this condition. Several Ayurvedic medicines can be used to give symptomatic relief of symptoms; the same medicines when used for 6-8 weeks can help to considerably reduce the frequency of recurrence of this condition, even after exposure to known allergens. Ayurvedic medicines reduce nasal congestion, inflammation, infection, and also help in repairing the damage to the mucous membrane of the nose and throat. The mucous membrane has microscopic hair known as cilia, which can be regenerated so that they start working effectively to reduce infection and inflammation in the entire respiratory tract.
Various medicated oils are used as local applications in the nose, and help to reduce frequent episodes of sneezing and watering of nose. The advantage of the regular use of such medicines is that they also treat nasal polyps, and provide additional benefits in the form of thickening and blackening of scalp hair, reduced hair fall, and prevent a deterioration of vision. Several Ayurvedic medicines can also be used as courses of two or three months to treat allergic rhinitis, recurrent asthma, and chronic bronchitis. People affected with allergic rhinitis may also be suffering from other allergic disorders such as eczema and asthma, and these conditions also need to be treated separately.
To sum up, allergic rhinitis can be treated quite effectively with Ayurvedic medicines.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder in which the affected individual is overly concerned about a particular issue to such an extent that it forces him/her to indulge in repetitive behaviour, which the individual recognises is uncalled for. This condition may cause personal distress, family disruptions, and social embarrassment. OCD is usually present in otherwise normal individuals; however, sometimes other symptoms may also be present, suggestive of some underlying psychiatric disorder.
Most individuals affected with OCD usually first approach a psychiatrist for medication; however, other than controlling anxiety, these medicines usually do not offer any substantial relief. Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (CBT) offers some benefit to such people. The advantage of Ayurvedic medicines is that these medicines are safe for long-term use and actually treat the root problem in OCD. The medicines help affected individuals to develop sufficient understanding and will power to control their obsession and curtail their compulsive behaviour. Regular Ayurvedic treatment for 4-6 months gives people affected with OCD sufficient control over their affliction, and allows then freedom to enjoy their lives without the shackles of this affliction.
People who concurrently show signs of some psychiatric disorder need to be treated for that condition too. Treatment for refractory patients can be given in a combined form, with a combination of Ayurvedic medicines and CBT or Ayurvedic medicines combined with modern anti-psychotic drugs. In such situations, regular supervision of a psychiatrist is recommended. However, for nearly 90 % of people with OCD, Ayurvedic medicines and some simple counselling suffice to give significant relief from this condition.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a medical condition characterised by inflammation, swelling, and pain in symmetrical joints, usually involving the smaller joints. This disease typically runs a chronic course, while having a varied long-term outlook. About half of those affected may have mild symptoms, which are usually well controlled with conventional treatment,  one-fourth may have a chronic but limited course, while the remaining one-forth have an aggressive form of the disease, with severe pain and joint disfigurement.
The modern treatment of rheumatoid arthritis is usually with standard, oral anti-inflammatory and pain-killing medications, as well as local applications having the same mode of action. People affected with refractory rheumatoid arthritis are usually put on steroids and immune-suppressant drugs. The response to these medications is usually good to start with; however, the long term benefits are usually limited, while the side effects are substantial and serious. Ayurvedic medicines have a major edge in treating such refractory patients, while limiting the potential side effects.
The aim of Ayurvedic treatment is to reduce the chronic inflammation process related to rheumatoid arthritis, as well as to regulate and regularise the immune system of the body, so that it helps positively in combating the disease. Herbal medicines act on the joint to reduce pain as well as swelling, and work on the joints to help repair the joint structure. Deformities in joints can either be prevented or reduced with the long term use of Ayurvedic medicines. Active Ayurvedic treatment for about 8-18 months is usually sufficient to significantly reduce all associated symptoms even in patients with severe forms of rheumatoid arthritis. Most such patients also have concurrent symptoms related to other auto-immune disorders, especially of the skin and mucous membranes. These symptoms too need to be treated aggressively, in order to bring about a remission of arthritis.
To sum up, Ayurvedic medicines have a major role to play in the treatment of aggressive and refractory types of rheumatoid arthritis.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Pemphigus Vulgaris

Pemphigus vulgaris is a serious and life threatening skin disorder, characterised by vesicular eruptions on the skin and mucous membranes. A disturbed immunity is believed to be responsible for this condition. Pemphigus is treated in the modern system of medicine by pulse therapy of steroids and other immune-suppressant medicines.  The use of steroids and other modern medicines do not usually eradicate the disease completely, and the side-effects of these medicines constitute serious problems of their own. There is therefore no satisfactory treatment for pemphigus vulgaris in the modern system of medicine.
Ayurvedic herbal medicines are very effective in reducing the inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes, and have a soothing effect so that the tendency to form blisters reduces gradually. Both oral as well as local treatment can be utilised to achieve these results. Treatment of the blood tissue has a generalised effect on the skin all over the body, and the rash, oozing, and crusting gradually start subsiding. This part of the treatment has a symptomatic effect on the disease. In addition, treatment is also given with specific herbs so as to strengthen the immune system of the body and regulate its functions, so that it starts fighting for, rather than against, the body.
Once the symptoms have subsided completely, treatment is continued so that the neurological and vascular components of the disease are treated completely. This ensures that the disease does not recur. It is important to note here that while most other skin diseases respond very fast to Ayurvedic treatment, pemphigus vulgaris responds comparatively more slowly. Treatment therefore needs to be taken for a long time with perseverance.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Eczema

Eczema, also known as dermatitis, is a skin condition characterised by irritation of the skin, which leads to rash, oozing and subsequent crust formation in the affected area. Repeated bouts of scratching lead to thickening and blackening of the skin. Eczema can present in different ways in adults and children. Depending upon the site affected, the presentation of eczema can also be quite varied. While not considered to be a serious or life-threatening medical condition, eczema can be socially embarrassing and psychologically disturbing. It is also usually associated with other allergy-induced disorders such as asthma and allergic rhinitis.
Recurrence is characteristic of this skin condition. Modern treatment for eczema involves the use of steroids and anti-allergic medicines in the form of oral medication or local application, to relieve inflammation and itching. While the eczema responds immediately to this treatment, it subsides for a few days, after which the entire process of rash, itching and oozing starts all over again.
Ayurvedic treatment too can be given in the form of local application as well as oral medication. Treatment is aimed at reversing the entire disease-producing process, and not just for relieving the symptoms. Eczema can be treated with the use of only herbal medicines, which are completely safe, even for prolonged use. Skin inflammation and rash is treated in such a way as to both relieve symptoms as well as to reduce the sensitivity of the skin, and strengthen the layers of the skin, so that they become immune to challenging elements, both external as well as internal. Blood as well as blood vessels are also treated for inflammation and sensitivity, to further reduce chances of a recurrence. Lastly, medicines are given to soothe nerves as well as the brain, so that the eczema can be completely eradicated, and the chances for recurrence are minimised, or prevented altogether. Other associated medical conditions also need consideration while treating eczema.
Affected individuals suffering from eczema since several decades have been observed to become free from this condition after taking regular treatment for just 3-6 months, without suffering a relapse. It is best to avoid known causative and precipitating factors for this condition.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Kidney Failure

Acute kidney failure is usually because of some infection, trauma, or some other medical emergency, and needs to be treated in an intensive care unit.  This article focuses upon chronic kidney failure, or chronic renal failure, in which a long-term management is required.
There are several causes of chronic kidney failure, in which a few notable conditions include persistent high blood pressure, untreated diabetes, renal artery stenosis, polycystic kidney, generalised medical conditions like auto-immune disorders, adverse drug reaction, and drug abuse. Chronic kidney failure is due to wide-spread damage to the structural and functioning units within the kidneys, resulting in impaired function of the kidneys. Fluid and electrolyte balance, and excretion of harmful waste products are important functions which are severely compromised due to kidney failure. This necessitates external dialysis to keep the body functioning at near-normal levels.
There are probably no medicines in the modern system which can help heal the damaged kidneys and restore some semblance of order and function of these organs. Fortunately, there are several herbal medicines which can be very safely used in kidney failure, and which directly act on the kidneys. These medicines act on the kidney tissue and reduce inflammation and scarring. They also act upon the tiny blood vessel within the kidney tissue to repair the damage done to the membranes through which transfer of fluid, electrolytes and waste products takes place. These medicines also act on the whole body to remove the known causes of kidney failure, and initiate a generalised healing process.  Most of these medicines also directly contribute in increasing the formation and passage of urine.
It is pertinent to note that there is no need to use any bhasmas in the treatment of chronic kidney failure, and this will put to rest concerns about the use of heavy metals in treating the damaged kidneys. Herbal medicines are quite effective in treating kidney failure and can be useful even up to the fourth stage of this condition. Needless to say, the earlier that treatment is initiated, the better and more complete will be the results obtained from Ayurvedic therapy.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Chronic Low Back Pain or Back-ache

Chronic low back pain or back-ache can be due to different causes. A faulty posture with poor muscular tone is one of the most common causes for this condition, and can be easily remedied by regular exercises, some loss of weight, and adopting an active life-style.
There are however, several serious causes for this condition, which need energetic and effective treatment. A slipped or herniated disc is a common cause, and can cause chronic pain by exerting pressure on the nerves coming out from the inter-vertebral openings. Arthritis of the spine and sacro-iliac joints is another common condition which can cause chronic low back pain. These conditions can be treated using Ayurvedic medicines which reduce pain, swelling and inflammation, and also sooth irritated nerves. A combination of oral medicines and local treatment is very effective in relieving pain and muscular spasm. Rest may be required in the acute phase, while regulated activity and exercise is recommended in the chronic phase.
A more serious cause of chronic, intractable low back pain is fracture and/or collapse of the vertebrae, resulting in bulging of the vertebral column, displacement of the vertebrae, and severe pressure on the nerves, which can result in neurological deficits, pain, limitation of movement, loss of sphincter control, and paralysis of limbs. Modern medicines are usually not successful in controlling the pain and neurological symptoms associated with this condition. Orthopoedic surgeons usually advise surgery to correct the condition; however, the results after surgery are usually not very promising. Some patients get partial benefit; some get no benefit; while a few may in fact have aggravation of pain, not to mention the risks usually associated with any major surgery.
Ayurvedic treatment in such a situation can be very effective in relieving pain as well as neurological deficits, and can prevent further deterioration and loss of mobility. Treatment is aimed at strengthening the vertebrae, the spinal muscles, and treating the irritation and inflammation of nerves. Ayurvedic panchkarma procedures like medicated enema may be required in a few patients. It may be difficult for modern physicians to visualise how the structural pathology in this condition can be treated without actual physical manipulation of the vertebral column; however, experience has consistently shown that severely incapacitated patients have benefited from Ayurvedic treatment and do not experience a relapse in their condition.
Ayurvedic treatment can thus prove to be a boon for patients with chronic and intractable low back pain.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Infertility

This article will discuss the role of Ayurvedic herbal treatment in infertility. The commonest presentations of infertility are as follows:
Reduced sperm count and/or poor sperm quality of husband: Ayurvedic medicines are unique in the sense that these are probably the only medicines which can dramatically improve both sperm count as well as quality in a short time, in a predictable manner, and are completely safe even for long-term use! The additional bonus is that some Ayurvedic medicines can also improve sexual performance, and are very useful in individuals with erection and ejaculation issues. Psychological, neurological and vascular conditions related to impaired sexual performance can also be treated successfully.
Anovulatory cycles in the wife: Failure of regular ovulation can be treated by using simple herbal and herbo-mineral medicines, which act on the brain, thyroid, uterus, as well as ovaries and bring about a regularisation of the female reproductive system. Primary ovarian failure (POF) in a young age can also be treated on the same principles. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is also responsible for failure of ovulation, and needs to be treated separately.
Blockage in the fallopian tubes and undeveloped uterus or cervix (mouth of the uterus), are other common causes of infertility in the female, which can be treated successfully with Ayurvedic medicines. Some women have repeated conceptions; however, the pregnancy is not carried successfully to full term. Various causes can be responsible for this, including chromosomal abnormalities, TORCH infections, sperm antibodies, and an unhealthy inner uterine lining. Specific Ayurvedic treatment according to the known cause can be given in order to bring about a successful and normal conception.
Finally, some couples have unexplained infertility, where the cause cannot be pin-pointed. Long-term treatment with Ayurvedic medicines on general principles of infertility treatment helps the majority of such couples to achieve successful conception. It would be noteworthy to add here that the Ayurvedic treatment of infertility is comparatively very safe and quite cost-effective.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Hearing Loss

Hearing loss which requires treatment can be of three types: Sensorineural hearing loss, conductive hearing loss, and a mixed type which involves hearing loss with both the previously mentioned types. It is best to conduct a thorough medical examination as well as an audiometry test to correctly diagnose the cause and type of hearing loss.

Ayurvedic medicines are effective in all types of hearing loss. The aim of treatment in sensorineural hearing loss is to help regenerate the auditory nerve, the parts of the inner ear connected to the auditory nerve, as well as to strengthen the hearing centre in the brain. Depending upon the severity of nerve damage, treatment from 3-6 months is usually required to help restore hearing to normal or near-normal levels. Other concurrent medical conditions like diabetes and hypertension may also have an impact upon the duration of treatment and the improvement observed with Ayurvedic medicines. In addition, elderly people with other nervous system involvement , for example, diseases like Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, may also need to be treated concurrently for these diseases, before they can get benefit for hearing loss.

Conductive hearing loss is usually related to damage in the middle ear, due to various reasons like recurrent infections, trauma, or congenital defects. The aim of treatment in this type of hearing loss is to repair the damage in the middle ear - usually related to the small bones which connect the ear drum to the auditory nerve. Ossification of these bones is the usual end-result, whic causes hearing loss.Treatment is aimed at healing these damaged bones to the extent possible, and removing or treating any known cause for the condition. Ayurvedic medicines are unique in the sense that they have the capacity to reduce the ossification and gluing together of the bones in the middle ear, and allow the natural hearing process to resume.

Mixed type of hearing loss has to be treated depending upon the severity of each component present in the affected individual. In addition, most affected people also have tinnitus or buzzing sound in the ear. Most of the times, it is related to nerve damage or a disturbance in the semi-circular canals of the ear. This too needs to be treated, since it may severely incapacitate the affected individual. Treatment is usually aimed at reducing the pressure in these canals, and reducing the stickiness of fluid present inside.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension is a serious disorder which can have an unfavourable long-term outlook. Advances in modern treatment for this condition have not really changed the overall outlook in the treatment of this condition.
Ayurvedic herbal medicines can be used judiciously to control this condition, reduce the severity of symptoms, improve the quality of life, and treat the known cause, if detected, for this condition. Simple herbal medicines can be used to reduce the pressure and constriction in the pulmonary vessels. Very few patients present only with primary (idiopathic), uncomplicated, pulmonary hypertension. Most individuals either have secondary complications like heart failure, or have some predominant condition which has led to pulmonary hypertension. It is therefore imperative to treat heart failure, and different causative diseases like interstitial lung disease and scleroderma.
Thankfully, almost all these medical conditions respond well to Ayurvedic medicines, though the treatment required may be long-term. The important thing to note is that pulmonary hypertension and its associated medical conditions can be managed well with Ayurvedic treatment, and the serious outlook associated with this condition can be dramatically changed for the better. Another important point of note is that the medicines which are useful in these conditions are quite safe, and highly economical.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a devastating mental condition which affects not only the patient, but all near and dear ones who care for the affected individual. Modern medicines can help to control aggression, violence, and hallucinations and delusions to some extent, but the individual remains dependent on someone else, mostly on a life-long basis.
Simple Ayurvedic herbal and herbo-mineral medicines can be used to rehabilitate such patients. A short course of treatment of four to six months reduces symptoms, reduces the required dose of modern medicines, and also treats the negative symptoms of this disease, which include lethargy, inactivity, and dullness of mind and body. The most important advantage of treatment with Ayurvedic medicines is that affected individuals gain confidence; improved cognition and learning ability combined with increased confidence gives them the ability to take up some work suitable to their abilities, and retain employment on a long-term basis. Long-term employment not only keeps the mind and body occupied, it also gives the individuals more economic freedom and independence.
Such Ayurvedic herbal treatment for Schizophrenia is not only very cost-effective, it is also very much safe as compared to modern medicines. The average incidence of Schizophrenia in society is around 1 %. Keeping this in mind, it can be easily calculated that millions of  people affected with Schizophrenia can be helped with Ayurvedic medicines to lead improved and better, more productive lives.
Ayurvedic herbal treatment of Schizophrenia thus helps schizophrenic patients to come into the mainstream of active life, and become responsible members of society.
